Afro Punk

brings the viewer front-and-center to the annual music event in Brooklyn, NY. It is here where the radically fashionable are let loose to party and be discovered amidst the music of punk, electronic and African sounds. Her unique series of images capture wild beauty, fantasy, personal expression and a soulful connection to the African diaspora, from past to future.
“Fashion is empowerment and a tool for self expression. My interest is to capture the most interesting and unique interpretations of "Afro-Punk", a celebration of culture I’d previously not seen”
Violetta’s talent lies harmoniously in her ability to capture each subject in their own profound glory while documenting the essence of the festival’s collective sense of community. Hip “street cool” luxury is a visual aesthetic common in this series as well that of her previous series Women of Color.
Images from AfroPunk stands proud and boldly challenges pre-concieved notions of identity, gender and style.
